In this photograph of my daughter Cierra, I captured contrast with texture, highlights, shape, and orientation. The easiest identifier is obviously the texture between her face, her hair, and the block wall behind her. It's form, geometric shapes, the rule of thirds to give it orientation within itself. I also captured the key light shining in her eyes that adds a little contrast.
